Short Vita of the Artist

Leo Horbach (1951) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (formerly: City Academy for Applied Arts) in Maastricht. He lives and works in Landgraaf. Since the 1980s, he has been working in a wide range of disciplines: drawing, painting, ceramics, bronze, stone, applied design, digital fine art, and furniture design. With stone as the starting point for his two- and three-dimensional work, Leo Horbach creates a "petrified (un)reality" that is narrative, sensual, anecdotal, sometimes surreal or metaphysical. Abroad, he regularly participates in symposia where monumental marble sculptures are created (Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland). He draws inspiration from humanity, mythology, the world of sagas and legends, or the supernatural, which he incorporates into his sculptures and iGraphics. Stone fascinates him and is his great passion.
