Daily Bread

This work was created in Lasa / Laas (South Tyrol) during lockdown, it is the result of a continuous search for aesthetic asceticism in art as a reflection of life. It is a meditation on the essence of being and the necessity of art through the metaphor of daily bread.

Art is not a ”delicacy” for a few, it is daily bread for everyone.

Täglich Brot / Pane Quotidiano / Daily Bread is made from a wood structure, called a Brothurte, used by the Farmers and Bakers of Venosta Valley / Vinschgau to store their iconic Paarl bread. In this piece, shards of LASA marble are placed instead of the typical bread.

Wood and marble, like South Tyrolian traditions of old, are the roots and essence of my Heimat. Täglich Brot / Pane Quotidiano / Daily Bread is an expression of this essence, in a period lead by an excesses of the superfluous and of loss of orientation.

In the context of this period of isolation, the artwork acknowledges and praises what is important for us. Täglich Brot / Pane Quotidiano / Daily Bread is the representation of the missing art as nourishment and its necessity.
